The estates and facilities department is responsible for the key day-to-day running of the Trust's estate.
Our team ensures our premises are a safe and pleasant environment for our staff, service users and visitors. The department also provides meals for wards and we run a number of restaurants and cafes on our larger sites.
Our estates and facilities teams have lots to do as we cover a wide geographical area.
There are lots of different teams within facilities and estates that support the running of the Trust and its premises - including a fire safety team and security team.
As an organisation we are committed to reducing the amount of waste we produce and how much waste we send to landfill so we have a dedicated team who support with this.
We also have a number of teams who help to maintain the buildings and grounds and keep them clean. These include:
Catering services
Domestic and housekeeping teams
Portering
Skilled maintenance teams: plumbers, electricians, joiners, gardeners
I started working at the Trust as a domestic but after the pandemic I decided to change my role to being a porter - I love it and it certainly keeps me fit.

Housekeeping and domestic services
We rely on domestic services round the clock so working in housekeeping and domestic services means working shifts. On an early shift you might help to make sure breakfasts are ready on time and offices and corridors are cleaned ready for the day’s work.
Estates technicians
Our hospitals and other NHS buildings need to be safe and welcoming for staff and service users. Any repairs and maintenance needs to be carried out to a high standard by skilled tradespeople.
Porter / drivers
Our porters make sure crucial goods and items are delivered where they are needed.
Our recruitment is person-centred. We're committed to keeping you informed at all stages and supporting you along the way.
You'll receive a first rate induction and access to a range of development programmes.
You’ll have access to our generous pension scheme, health service discounts and 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, which increases the longer you’re in service.
If you need a DBS check, we will pay for it, as well as your annual subscription fee for the DBS update service.
The grounds and maintenance team deliver a repair and maintenance service throughout the Trust and are based at key locations to provide:
This all helps to make our environments safe and pleasant for our staff, service users and visitors to enjoy.
On our Fieldhead site in Wakefield we have a woodland walk and therapeutic gardens which our service users maintain as part of their care plan.
I previously worked for a gas and electric company and decided to make the change into the NHS - I love my work/life balance here and have lots of empathy for our service users. We all make a difference to them in our own way.
