With the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to the north, the Derbyshire peaks to the south, beautiful countryside and parks and a host of vibrant cities in-between, you couldn’t wish for a better place for you and your family to be living and working. With 45 miles of the Yorkshire coastline just over an hour away from many of our Trust locations you will feel like the world is your oyster for places to visit on your days off.
Yorkshire is a cultural hotspot, with Bradford, one of our neighbouring cities, having recently been revealed as the winner of the UK City of Culture 2025 competition. We are home to many galleries and museums including the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Canon Hall, Elsecar Heritage Centre, The Hepworth Museum, Eureka and many more. We also have arena's that attract some of the biggest artists in the world - Utilita Arena in Sheffield, the First Direct Arena in Leeds and Hull’s Bonus Arena. There are also smaller venues such as The Sheffield Leadmill and the O2 Academy in Leeds, all of which are on our doorstep.
Sporting clubs and events are also extremely prevalent in our district too. Ever since Yorkshire hosted part of the Tour de France Grand Depart back in 2014 we have been running the Tour de Yorkshire with communities coming together to cheer on riders as they cycle through their respective local villages and towns. We also have a number of both men and women's football teams in and around our localities including Barnsley, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday which is one of the oldest teams in the country. If you prefer the sport with the odd shaped ball, then Yorkshire is home to rugby league with Leeds Rhino's being one of the most successful teams over the last decade. Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Wildcats and Castleford Tigers all play within the super league too.
With house prices being relatively low in some of our local areas compared to the larger cities but still being at the heart of major motorways links (M62, M1, A1M) it makes commutes to Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Harrogate easily accessible by car. Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield train stations also serves the main train service to London and with advance tickets costing under £15 you can enjoy a day out in our capital in 2.5 hours.
